Coach Katy Lampman
Katy Lampman, entering her second season as assistant softball coach at Radford University, has made an immediate impact on the Highlander squad.
Playing a key role in Radford's 2009 Big South Championship and a NCAA Regional appearance, Lampman was part of a staff that was named Mid-Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
With on-field instruction being Lampman's main focus, the Highlander defense flourished in 2009. Radford turned a school record 24 double plays and posted a .966 fielding percentage, tops in the Big South and second best in school history.
Also working with the Highlander bats, the Highlanders improved on several team and individual numbers from a season ago which included breaking school records in batting average (.315), home runs (71), slugging (.535) and on base (.369) percentage.
A 2003 graduate of Winthrop, Lampman joins Radford after spending the past two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater. While with the Lady Eagles, she worked closely with the hitters and catchers.
Along with coaching, Lampman has been providing private lessons that keyed on pitching, catching and hitting, while working several camps at Winthrop, University of Georgia and in Canada over the past five years. In 2007, she founded the Superior Softball School in Concord, N.C. which offers individual instruction and clinics in all areas of softball.
Im very excited to work for Mickey Dean and with the Radford softball program, said Lampman. Ive known Mickey for several years in the coaching circles and it is a privilege to finally work with and learn from him. I cant wait to get started and help Radford be a dominant force in the Big South.
Lampman (formerly Katy Agee) was a three-year starting catcher for the Lady Eagles (2001-03). A 2002 Big South All-Tournament selection, Lampman helped Winthrop to a pair of Big South Championship game appearances in 2001 and 2002.
A pre-med major, Lampman graduated from Winthrop with a degree in biology, earning NFCA All-Academic honors, while being a member of the Tri-Beta Honor Society.
A native of Louisa, Va., she resides in Dublin with her two daughters, Natalie and Corynn.
