RADFORD’S BEALL AND JENKINS SWEEP BIG SOUTH WEEKLY SOFTBALL AWARDS

RADFORD, Va.
– Radford swept the Big South’s weekly softball awards as Nichole Beall (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) and Jackie Jenkins (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) were selected the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player and The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week, respectively for games played March 14-20, announced Monday by the League office.

Beall paced the Highlanders’ offense during a 5-2 week.  She batted .591 with five doubles and eight RBI. She went 13-for-22 with five multi-hit games, including 4-for-4 in a 9-0 win vs. Delaware, finishing the game with a career-high five RBI.

The second baseman scored six runs, stole three bases and was walked twice last week, while recording .625 on base and .955 slugging percentages. On the defensive side, she tallied 22 putouts and 12 assists. With Beall’s play, she was named the Radford Invitational Offensive MVP (10-16, 4 doubles, 1 HR and 8 RBI in the tournament), finishing off the last three games at an .889 (8-9) clip.

Jenkins earned her second pitcher of the week nod in three weeks after recording a trifecta of wins last week and not allowing any runs in 18 innings of work. The right-handed twirler finished the week with seven strikeouts and tossed two complete game shutouts in victories over Robert Morris and Delaware.

In her first appearance of the week, Jenkins came out of the bullpen to earn a 2-1 win against James Madison, striking out two and allowing four hits in five innings of shutout relief. For her efforts last weekend, she was named Co-Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament.

The Highlanders return to action on Wednesday, March 23 when they host in-state foe Liberty in the league opener for both squads. First pitch for this single game is slated for 3 p.m.
